Feast of the Immaculate Conception in Acomayo, Cusco.
The festivity of the Blessed Virgin of the Immaculate Conception begins on December 8 in Acomayo, Cuzco. The activities that this celebration entails begin very early, at 6 am, and after that, the holy mass is held, where the believers of the virgin accompany, hoping to receive her blessing.
On the 8th and 9th of December, the celebration of the mass continues and the journey of its faithful accompanying the procession of the Virgin. Tourists and people from all over Peru come to this to listen to the holy mass and ask for blessings from the Virgin.
The following days the activities continue, on December 10 and 11 typical dance competitions are organized, we can also find a variety of typical dishes, and everything that the town organizes to participate in this event every year. This is where “la hurk’a” takes place, which is a Quechua word that means support or solidarity. In the hurk’a, the mayordomos offer a series of breads and drinks to relatives and parishioners, thus requesting their solidarity support. And they return the supplies and resources that were used for the party. This moment clearly expresses the values of solidarity and reciprocity.
